"Demystifying the State House"
The State House is the People's House! Attendees are given an overview of the Massachusetts legislature, the legislative process, how to contact and lobby legislators, as well as how to utilize their offices as a resource for clients.
"Making the Most of Macro"
This workshop provides an overview of the different types of macro social work, and identifies key words and skillsets to build your macro muscle. Even if full-time macro isn't the goal, you will leave with a new appreciation and understanding of why macro is important and how to weave it into your clinical practice.

"Promoting Psychological Safety in the Workplace"
The memes about casual Fridays and pizza parties as a way to combat burnout are funny, but how do we actually take care of our staff and promote a thriving workplace? We will discuss the importance of accountability, direct communication, consistency and more that helps build psychological safety.
"Tolerating Risk in Clinical Work"
In our clinical education, we are often taught "file just in case" when it comes to children at risk, or being quick to section an individual when they are experiencing suicidal ideation. This workshop facilitates a thoughtful discussion about our role as mandated reporters, while honoring the autonomy of clients and utilizing existing community resources.

"I appreciated the topic, especially having recently moved into a new job where advocacy and development are a greater part of what I do. Not knowing much about the whole process from a political standpoint, this was an immensely helpful intro/primer!"- September 2020 [Demystifying the State House]
"I thought the presentation was very informative and helpful in understanding all layers of government in Massachusetts. I felt very inspired to become more involved in advocating for certain bills." - June 2020 [Demystifying the State House]

"Professor Hansen is absolutely top tier. She did a fantastic job of relating the material to both a micro and macro context. Her own personal work experience gave her the ability to share a breadth of practical examples. She is extremely good at explaining concepts, creates a really open and positive environment, and somehow got a class of students to actively engage at 8am on a Friday. She always gave us the opportunity to write comments or questions on anonymous notecards after class, which is just one way that she truly made sure that everyone was getting the most out of the class. I would recommend her to anyone..."- Fall 2023 [Basic Skills in Clinical Social Work]
"Professor Sophie Hansen is an outstanding educator, one who cultivated a classroom environment where students could be
curious, vulnerable, and welcomed. She's attuned the diversity of experiences within a space, and possesses a singular capacity in
facilitating difficult conversations with both grace and respect. For subject matter that can sometimes feel a little dry to a clinical
student, she manages to make all of us enthused and engaged through vignettes and examples... As a student of color, it was deeply meaningful to have an educator like Professor Hansen who was committed to anti–racist practice in both action and word."- Spring 2022 [Social Welfare System]
